Romantic Gulf-Front Getaway and an Unforgettable Culinary Experience!
Words by Mackenzie Amos
Nestled on the west end of Crystal Beach in Destin, Florida lies a gorgeous adults-only, gulf-front, luxury boutique hotel. With only 36 exquisitely decorated rooms and suites, bordering a 208-acre state preserve with 1.3 miles of unobstructed beach, and home to one of the most famous restaurants in town, this is no ordinary Inn. We were lucky to find this hidden gem as a friend had recently stayed at the Inn and highly recommended it for my husband and I for a much-needed romantic getaway!
As you turn down the drive to enter the Henderson Park Inn, you’ll immediately notice that this resort property is unique when you see the wood shake exterior more commonly found in places such as Martha’s Vineyard. Immediately immersed in romantic beach ambience, the stunning views engulf your sight and you are mesmerized by the breathtaking beauty of all that is the Gulf of Mexico.
Upon entering the Inn, you are greeted by the warm woods and elegant décor of the foyer and friendly staff who offer you a guided look into all that awaits. As you break your gaze to get a better grasp on your surroundings, the concierge indulges you in all the options for your stay, including a complimentary Chef’s breakfast, gourmet boxed picnic lunch, and happy hour at the Tiki Bar.
As you open the door to your guestroom, the views are spectacular and the suite evokes feelings of romance, serenity and relaxation. In your own private sanctuary, you’ll encounter soft romantic music and special amenities including wine, grapes and flowers, making a getaway quite a treat.
But there’s more — from 11 to 2 p.m., the Beach Walk Café offers complimentary cookies, lemonade, and homemade soups for all guests to enjoy. Helpful hint, right before you walk into the restaurant, take a left down the hallway. There you will find a plethora of games, candies, and drinks for guests to enjoy at all times. As an avid dominos player, I spent the happy hour with a lovely glass of wine, enjoying the gulf views, and the look on my husband’s face as I consistently beat him in the game. He was able to wash down his losses with a cold beer and cookie to ease the pain!
Between the happiest of hours and our much-awaited dinner, we decided to make use of the endless amenities that the Henderson Park Inn has to offer. Complimentary bikes, gorgeous walks on the beach with courtesy chairs to sit and enjoy the view, cozying up by the fire pit, and access to the Inn’s sister property, The Henderson Resort & Spa’s pool and gym, were on the schedule and we couldn’t wait to do it all.
Beginning at 5 p.m. daily, the Beach Walk Café opens for dinner. As the only beachfront fine dining restaurant in Destin, there was no shortage of excitement for the food that awaited. As many would imagine, a surplus of fresh seafood graced the menu, along with finely cut steaks, succulent sides, and bountiful desserts. Items such as Berkshire Pork Loin and the Delmonico ribeye dish are great for any land-lover, whereas the Grouper Vince and Shrimp & Grits are guaranteed to fill your seafood craving.
Soaking up all the activities and meals that we indulged in, my husband and I left the Henderson Park Inn recharged, revamped, and relaxed and can highly recommend the Inn for a honeymoon, anniversary, or any special vacation with your sweetheart.
