Situated in the middle of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley, Albany has curated its historical roots and blended them with culinary and “spirited” magic. Arriving at the city’s revitalized historic downtown, it’s immediately apparent that the wine, beer and spirits industry is flourishing.
The Willamette Valley was recognized by Wine Enthusiast Magazine as the “2016 Number One Wine Region of the Year” —winning the coveted title away from vintners across the globe.
Located mere minutes from Albany’s downtown core, Springhill Cellars Winery is nestled into rustic countryside—the perfect spot to sip Pinot Noir and other varietals from their vineyard, aged in the French barrel method.
The scenic Willamette River flows through the heart of Albany, setting the stage for downtown shopping, artisanal breweries, and culinary accompaniment. Take a summer’s evening stroll along the river, then head over to Sweet Red for their artistic charcuterie, Oregon wines, cocktails and desserts. At Sybaris Bistro, Chef Matt Bennet pairs regional wines with farm-fresh cuisine and a monthly seasonal menu. For a spectacular view that can’t be beat, take a short drive to Mark’s Ridge Winery in nearby Lebanon. Perched atop a foothill, its tasting room is a virtual eagle’s nest—the highest elevation winery in the Willamette Valley.
Tap Rooms and Breweries
Downtown Albany is a beer aficionado’s destination. Try No Rails Ale House, Three Sheets Brewing & Tap Room, Growler Garage & Tap House, Calapooia Brewing Co., Deluxe Brewing Company, or a bit outside downtown, Vagabond Brewing Outpost.
Cocktails and Spirits
Feeling “cosmopolitan?” Cheer the evening on at one of Albany’s regional distilleries or cocktail bars. Toast to friendship at Vault 244—located inside a historic bank building downtown, the Vault serves up cocktail sophistication and tapas at their finest. Take a brief jaunt over the river for the lively atmosphere at Frankie’s in North Albany. A fun casual bar and outdoor patio serve notable foodie delights like their mountain-high shareable pork belly fries or freshly harvested (from the chef’s own garden) salad greens and wild caught salmon. Frankie’s premium cocktails and Oregon wines compliment their full restaurant menu.
When the day calls for sampling spirits, take a countryside trip to Nectar Creek in Philomath and sip mead made from the honey of local bees. Spiritopia Liqueurs in neighboring Corvallis produces award winning ginger liqueur. While in Corvallis, check out the new cucumber gin, whiskeys, rum, and vodka at 4 Spirits Distillery. And right alongside Albany’s Deluxe Brewing Co., Sinister Distilling Company produces whiskeys, brandy, and gin.
