Driving the country roads of the Susquehanna River Valley, one can’t help but notice the stunning pastoral scenery filled with bucolic farmlands, mountains and valleys, winding streams, horse and buggies, plus wineries and vineyards that beckon all to sample and taste; relax and enjoy.
With some of the most fertile land on the East Coast, Pennsylvania ranks fifth nationally on the amount of grapes grown. Located in central Pennsylvania, the Susquehanna River Valley is home to five family-owned wineries: Fero Vineyards and Winery, Four Friends Vineyard & Winery, Shade Mountain Winery, Spyglass Ridge Winery and The Winery at Hunters Valley. A sixth winery, Whispering Oak Winery, is scheduled to open in summer 2016. Through dedication, passion, perseverance and patience, the wineries of the Susquehanna River Valley have become year-round destinations unto themselves, offering tastings, food pairings, annual seasonal festivals and promotions, plus concerts, musical entertainment, pig roasts and other special events.
While enjoying the wonderful wineries of the Susquehanna River Valley you’ll also discover amazing outdoor and river recreation, antiquing, arts and culture, historic downtowns, brew trails, comfy inns and B&Bs, plus distinctive restaurants featuring locally grown food and regional cuisine.
